Restore Nature Now is a collective of NGOs, grassroots organisations and individuals including: the RSPB, The Wildlife Trusts, WWF-UK, Friends of the Earth, WWT, Woodland Trust, National Trust, Wildlife and Countryside Link, The Climate Coalition, Extinction Rebellion and Chris Packham.
Let’s go back in time a bit to the 1960s and the research by Rachel Carson, an American biologist. Her book Silent Spring described the consequences of man’s interference with the environment, how insecticides were upsetting the balance of nature in far-reaching ways that endangered everyone and everything.
When Rachel Carson wrote ‘Silent Spring’ in 1962, people could perhaps claim they didn’t know about the hidden destruction to the environment, to wildlife. No one can claim that now.
Yet the reality is that the assault on nature has got worse and worse. The agencies that are designed to protect nature seem either toothless or hand in glove with those who relentlessly destroy the environment.
I am one of those who believe that Nature’s power of redemption are enough to regain the planet. Whether we the human species will survive is another matter.
