I guess that just about every man and woman on the street in 2024 could make the environmental argument. The argument is that it is bad for the environment for shops to keep their doors open and the heating on in winter. And it is bad to keep their shop doors open and the air conditioning on in summer.
OK, shop doors are one element in the climate control puzzle.
But what about those who are already defeated? What about those who think that we are going to hell in a hand basket, that we are just not going to change our ways?
What about those who think the last Conference of the Parties (COP) meeting was highjacked and turned into a greenwashing PR exercise for the fossil fuel industry?
And what about those who think we just don’t have the means or the technology to put our foot on the brake pedal even if we wanted to?
It’s just an excuse for not doing anything. I’ve said before there may be room for argument about the effect that man is having on global warming. There may even be room for argument about whether we are experiencing global warming as anything other than a blip in the graph.
What is not in doubt is that we are destroying the Earth with pollution. Treating the Earth as an inexhaustible supply of fuel that can be extracted and used without consequences is wilful self delusion. Just look around and we know it’s true.
